Campaigners calling for the release from jail of a prominent Derry republican are to stage a protest in Derry city centre tomorrow afternoon.
The “line white” demonstration will take place on Shipquay Street at 3.00pm to mark 200 days since Tony Taylor’s licence was revoked by the then British Secretary of State.
The organisers, the “Free Tony Taylor,” who say there is no legitimate reason for his detention, have called on people to come out and show their support at tomorrow’s protest.
Derry City and Strabane District Council and Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness are among those who have called for his immediate release.
The 48-year-old member of the Republican Network for Unity (RNU) was released on licence in 2014 after serving three years for possesson of a rifle.
His licence was revoked on March 10 last.
Come Monday next, he will have spent 200 days in jail.
Derry City and Strabane District Council and Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness are among those who have called for his immediate release.
