Renowned local author Dave Duggan has delivered the first lecture in the “Island Voices” series in Derry’s Tower Museum.
Entitled “Shovel, Bayonet and Pen: Digging for Nationhood,” the talk was on the life and work of Irish war poet Francis Ledwidge, from Co Meath, who was killed in action at the Battle of Passchendaele during World War One.
The series continues on Thursday, 20 October, with a lecture from Professor Elizabeth Crooke discussing “Remembrance and Neglect: Negotiating 1916 in 2016.”
The final lecture will take place on Thursday, 24th November, with Aindrias Ó Cathasaigh discussing “The Irish Language and the Rising.”
All lectures are free of charge and will include lunch.
Lunch will be from 12:30pm-1:00pm with the lectures from 1:00pm-2:00pm.
