Organisers of the CultureTech festival in Derry say no decision has been made on whether it will take place next year.
The festival, which attracted up to 50,000 people last year, did not take place this year because of financial constraints.
However, the city’s Chamber of Commerce, which manages the festival, say they have not yet decided to run the event in 2017.
The CultureTech festival was created to push the digital industry in Derry.
Since its creation several years ago, the festival has proven very popular and attracted large crowds to a host of events.
However, doubts over whether the festival would be run this year were first revealed by the Derry News in February of this year.
At that time, Padraig Canavan, a board member of the Londonderry Chamber of Commerce, said that a review of the festival was being taken in the ‘context of ever tightening public finances’.
Mr Canavan outlined more details on why the festival had been cancelled for this year.
“CultureTech has been expensive and has been subsidised by the Londonderry Chamber of Commerce at a cost of about £25,000,” he said.
“This is despite the significant financial sponsorship of a range of public and private bodies, for which we are very appreciative.
“However, the nature of that financial sponsorship creates practical challenges, as money arrives in arrears whereas costs have to be met up front.
“Cash flow management of CultureTech has proven extremely challenging for the Chamber.”
However, Mr Canavan said it was important to stess that CultureTech continued.
“CultureTech remains a brand of the Chamber and is an ongoing mechanism to build digital technology skills amongst school pupils and young adults.
“While there has been no CultureTech festival this year, no decision has yet been taken about whether the festival will take place in 2017 and subsequent years.”
