Northern Ireland Human Rights Commissioners (NIHRC) are to visit Derry this week.
During Thursday’s visit, they will meet with local councillors, PSNI and local community representatives.
Alderman Hilary McClintock said the visit was an “excellent opportunity” for the public to hear at first hand the work the Commission carried out to help protect and promote the rights of everyone in Northern Ireland.
She added: “I would encourage the public to come along and attend the meetings and find out about the work of the Commission and get an update on the work they are doing across Northern Ireland to ensure all organisations are working in line with human rights standards,” she said
NIHRC Chief Commissioner, Les Allamby (pictured), said they were “delighted” to be visiting the city.
He added: “We will be providing updates on our ongoing investigation into Traveller Accommodation and also on the progress from our Inquiry into Accident and Emergency Care which has led to pioneering work with a number of health and social care trusts.
“Our work is wide-ranging covering business and human rights locally through to responding to international human rights treaty bodies as to what is happening on the ground in Northern Ireland.
“We really want to hear first- hand what human rights issues are facing local groups and citizens.
“Commissioners find these invaluable opportunities as they assist us in planning our future work priorities.”
“I would encourage the public to come along and attend the meetings and find out about the work of the Commission and get an update on the work they are doing across Northern Ireland to ensure all organisations are working in line with human rights standards,” she said.
