There has been a call for an end to “territory marking” in the Co Derry town of Limavady.

The call comes from Sinn Fein Councillor Brenda Chivers after a number roads weredaubed with red, white and blue paint.

A bridge on the Seacoast Road was also painted and the roundabout at Mill Place has also been targeted.

Appealing for those to stop, Councillor Chivers said: “There are a number of issues with this sort of vandalism, firstly they are putting themselves in danger as these are busy areas.

“Secondly, it gives off entirely the wrong impression to people coming into the town especially tourists. There is also the cost of the clean up to be considered.

“This type of activity is completely counterproductive to the good work that is going on within Limavady to remove all flags and any sign of territory being marked so I would call on all elected representatives to condemn this and work to ensure it does not happen again.

She added: “Myself and party colleagues have received many complaints regarding this.”
