A Co Derry butcher has been announced as the winner of the all-Ireland Steak Invitational Championship at the inaugural Butchery Excellence Scheme (BES) Butchery Expo.
Glenn McDowell, of Glenn’s Butchers in Limavady, picked up the award at a ceremony held in the Four Seasons Hotel in Monaghan.
The event saw saw the best of Ireland’s butchery sector come together for talks, demonstrations and competitions for those in the butchery profession.

The Invitational Steak Challenge saw butchers from throughout Northern Ireland and Ireland compete across 12 steak categories, but it was Glenn’s Butchers that scooped four awards including the top prize.
Rhonda Montgomery, founder and chief executive of the Butchery Excellence Scheme, said Glenn’s Butchers were deserving winners.
She added: “Glenn McDowell has a superb business and it’s wonderful to see it getting the recognition it deserves for excellence in the field of butchery.
“The calibre of the entrants was exceptional, so to have come away with the title of champion is a great achievement.”
