Foyle Sinn Féin MLA Martin McGuinness is to meet the families of those killed in the Loughinisland massacre to discuss their campaign for justice.

Six men were killed and five injured when UVF gunmen burst into the Heights Bar (pictured) in the Co Down village and opened fire on customers watching a Wolrd Cup football game on TV,

No one has ever been convicted for the murders.

Earlier this year, the Police Ombudsman's report into the killings found that state agencies were involved in the importation of weapons, mass murder and cover-up in the 1994 killings.

Speaking ahead of visiting the Heights Bar to meet with relatives of those killed in the , Mr McGuinness said the report exposed rhe scale of the British state's collusion with loyalist death squads.

He added: "I am meeting the families to discuss the Ombudsman’s report and where they go from here in their campaign to get justice for their loved ones.

"I want to pay tribute to the families for their courage and determination in the face of huge obstacles being placed in their way by a British government, which is attempting to avoid its responsibilities on addressing the legacy of the past.”

Mr McGuinness concluded: "Sinn Féin will continue to support the Loughinisland families in their campaign for truth and justice.”
