The owner of the minibus attacked and damaged in Derry earlier this week has said he will never be sending one of his vehicles to the city again.
The bus, which brought Dundalk fans to the Brandywell for the FAI Cup semi-final replay with Derry City, was attacked – as were the supporters – after the game.
It was the latest in a number of similar incidents following Derry City matches, the most recent being in March this year when Cork City fans were targeted.
A bus taking Dundalk fans home had bricks and stones thrown at it in March last year, an incident which resulted in the official Dundalk Supporters’ Club stop running buses to Derry.
A Dundalk bus was previously attacked with bricks and stones and had windows smashed outside the stadium following a game in March 2015.
Fans were attacked as they made their way along Lecky Road (pictured) to the nearby Gasyard Centre where the bus was also attacked.
David Kelliher, owner of ‘Dundalk Cabs,’ said: “The windows were broken, wipers were pulled off, the tyres were busted.
“It’s a bit of a mess. We have no estimates on damage yet but it will cost a couple of thousand to fix the bus,” he said.
“There won’t be another one of my buses going to Derry, not a chance of it. Never. It was a terrifying experience for all concerned.”
“Derry is a common away trip for Dundalk and we travel all around the country with Dundalk supporters, but we won’t be returning to the Brandywell.”
