Young musicians will showcase their talents at a special event in Derry this weekend.
The fifth annual ‘Messin With The Music’ (MWTM) workshop has been in full swing all week at Studio 2 with the talented McLaughlin brothers facilitating a class full of aspiring young rock stars who will perform on stage on Sunday afternoon at the Skeoge hub.
Praising the standards of this year’s participants, Caolan McLaughlin explained the format of the project.
“I’m over the moon with the talented young people that have come along this year, and in great numbers too.
“They will split into two or maybe three groups and gain experience in the components of being in a band, writing and then performing an original song as part of Sunday’s showcase. It’s pressure, but it’s also fun.”
The project, funded by the Arts Council NI, is now in its fifth year as part of the Greater Shantallow Community Arts programme and the young participants were well impressed with the facilities.
Guitarist Josh Barr said: “This is not my first year here but it’s the first at the new Studio 2 hub and it’s just fantastic. The acoustics in the ‘Wee Theatre’ are second to none. It’s a far cry from the hut at Bloomfield a few years ago.’
Sunday’s final showcase will take place in the Wee Theatre at Studio 2 at 2.00pm.
Everyone is welcome to go along to the event.
