A new social housing development in Derry comprising of 76 new homes has been named.
The homes are being constructed by the Clanmil Housing Group at 137 Northland Road, comprising of 37 two-bed apartments, 10 three-bed houses and four two-bedroom houses.
The new development (pictured), adjacent to the First Source call centre, also includes 15 one bedroom apartments and 10 two-bed apartments for the ‘active elderly’.
It emerged a meeting of Derry City and Strabane District Council’s Environment and Regeneration Committee that two names had put forward by Clanmil for the new development.
The meeting was told that the developer had proposed the preferred names ‘Balliniska Avenue’ for the houses and ‘Balliniska Heights’ for the apartments as they retain the name of the former townland of Balliniska where the site is located.
The names were the result of a cross-community competition hosted by Reach Across.
Councillors approved both names.
