Concern has been expressed about the speed of traffic travelling along the Hollyhall Road running parallel to Glenowen Park in Derry.
The road (pictured) is used by many motorists as a shortcut between the Foyle Springs aea and Creggan estate.
SDLP Foyle MLA Mark H Durkan is calling for road safety measures put in place.
Mr Durkan said: “I have been contacted by a number of local people who have expressed their concern about the speed of vehicles travelling along this section of road which runs parallel to Glenowen Park.
“The Hollyhall Road, which is essentially a rural road, is used as an easy shortcut to Creggan and Donegal bypassing the city.
“The speed at which traffic travels along this route, especially past the entrance to the estate, is particularly concerning.
“I have asked Transport NI to carry out a traffic impact assessment immediately in order to gauge the extent of the problem and apply suitable measures to deal with the outcomes.”
Mr Durkan concluded: “Meanwhile, I would ask drivers and the public to be aware of their speed and the dangers presented at this junction and drive with caution and vigilance.”
