Work on a new £11 million custody suite in Derry will begin next year, the PSNI has said.
The purpose-built facility with 21 cells will be constructed at the Waterside police station.
It will replace the custody provision at Strand Road which will close on completion of the new facility in 2019.
Tbe announcement was made by Assistant Chief Constable Stephen Martin who also confirmed custody suites in Bangor and Armagh would close next year.
