A Derry DJ is set to bring her Liverpool-based music event home to the city.
Orlagh Dooley (23), from Prehen, along with Liverpool-born Jessica Beaumont, formed Meine Nacht over a year ago and are enjoying huge success with the project.
Meine Nacht transforms unused, secret buildings into energetic music shows which are filmed and live streamed all over the world.
The project has afforded Orlagh the opportunity to play in various locations all over Britain.
Speaking about her inspiration for the project Orlagh (pictured) said: “We decided to start Meine Nacht as we felt that the lack of spontaneity within most electronic nights needed to be addressed. We wanted to provide a fresh take on nightlife; something that was different and slightly mysterious.
“We set out to establish a sense of ‘community’ within the crowd at each event, and we do this by limiting the capacity and keeping ticket prices low.
“A warm, friendly atmosphere is what we intend to create, and I really believe that this shines through at our events.
“We are also big on supporting and nurturing up-and-coming talent, both in music and art. So many of the DJ’s and visual contributors are just breaking through in the scene and it is good to be able to provide a platform for these individuals to shine through.”
The music shows which consist of house and electronic music played to a backdrop of visual art have been hugely successful in Liverpool’s vibrant electronic music scene.
Most notably the last event which was held in an abandoned police station was reviewed by well renowned music magazine Mixmag.
The magazine stated that Meine Nacht “provided a counterpoint to the tired, male-dominated orthodoxy of the resident mega-clubs”
Meine Nacht’s Derry event has gained support from some of the biggest names in music including Seth Troxler, Bicep, Jamie XX and Boiler Room.
The wider project has also gained support from CRACK magazine and Manchester-based magazine The Skinny.
Speaking about bringing the successful event to Derry Orlagh said “Since establishing Meine Nacht last year, we have been planning on coming back to Derry to put something on.
“It's always been bubbling under the surface for us, we just wanted to wait until the right time and I feel that now is that time. Derry's music scene is very fruitful; it always has been, but for electronic music in particular, I feel that there is still room for us to fill a void in terms of the type of atmosphere we intend to create on the 7th.”
The Derry event will take place on May 7 at an undisclosed location which will not consist of a regular club space.
Or:la will play alongside two other Derry-born DJ’s, Joe Campbell from Good Vibrations and Jonny Delaney from Celtronic. Hubie Davison, Matt Champion and Beaux will make up the rest of the line-up.
Early-bird tickets are £6 and can be purchased at skiddle.com
