Whistling Donkeys headline Greysteel charity bash

Anyone travelling through Greysteel on Friday night couldn't have missed the music booming out from the two massive marquees in the village.

The two forty-feet tents were erected by local man Stephen Gurney to host a fundraiser for the Chest, Heart and Stroke Association.

Mr Gurney decided to run the event as the association had been so good to him after he suffered a collapsed lung last year.

"It was a great night and, with a couple of returns left to come in, we think we have raised in the region of £3000 in all," he told the Derry News yesterday.

"It took a bit of organising but we sorted out a bar, outdoor toilets and a chip van there - and there were no problems with any of them. Local businesses donated all sorts of items for our raffle, which was very well supported. Club M got us a massive plastic cow, that everyone got their picture taken with. And the Whistling Donkeys did a great set.

"I'm very pleased we were able to help out the Chest Heart and Stroke Association - and repay them in some way for the help they gave me last year."
