Derry Western Trust Healthcare Staff Receive Recognition for Dementia Work

The Western Health and Social Care Trust (Western Trust) are continuing to support healthcare staff across the Western Trust area by providing training in dementia care.

Staff from Trauma and Orthopaedics Unit at Altnagelvin Hospital, Derry, who have successfully completed their course in best practice in dementia care from the University of Sterling were recently presented with their award certificates.  The course was facilitated by, Deirdre Harkin, PHD researcher in the Trust.

Mary Lafferty, Assistant Nursing Services Manager in Trauma and Orthopaedic said: “This course is made available to the staff within the Trauma and Orthopaedic Unit on an ongoing basis. I am delighted that our staff continue to undertake this training, which enhances the experience of patients with dementia and their families who are cared for in the Unit.”
