Foyle DUP MLA Gary Middleton has raised concerns about the apparent lack of preparation for the winter period
Gary Middleton said “Over recent days we have witnessed freezing temperatures and dangerous road conditions. It quickly became clear that an overwhelming majority of the grit boxes were empty, despite several weather warnings in place.
"These routine tasks should have been completed well in advance of the winter period.
"There is significant anger within local communities and rural areas who have struggled to get to and from their homes.
"I would urge Transport NI to ensure the grit boxes are replenished as soon as possible and that steps are taken to assist residents and businessses affected by the treacherous road conditions across our district."
