The Derry public have urged to be vigilant after a pensioner was targeted by a health lottery scam.
The woman, from the Creggan area, received a letter from a company which said that she had won money in a national health lottery draw.
Local independent councillor Gary Donnelly warned anyone who receives such a letter to ignore it.
"It is similar to other scams where in some cases unsuspecting members of the public are conned out of cash some of them significant amounts of savings.
"I would call on anyone who receives a similar letter to ignore it. If you didn't enter a lottery then you can't have won.
"I would also call on members of the public not to give personal or bank details as they could be used for identity theft.
"Responding to this scam could also lead to a torrent of letters, calls and emails all looking to scam. The scammers are hoping to take advantage of victims blinded by promises of life changing amounts of cash.
"Some telltale signs are strict time limits on claiming your prize and requests to keep the letter confidential," he concluded.
