News that a new operator has been found for the Magilligan-Greencastle ferry has been welcomed by Sinn Fein Councllor Dermot Nicholl.
The ferry service has been taken over by Rooskey Frazer & Co who hope to have the service operational by the start of next month.
Welcoming the announcement, Cllr Nicholl, a member of the Causeway Coast and Glens Council, said: "Myself and my party colleagues have held various meetings on this issue.
“We realise how important this service is to the local community and the the wider tourist industry on the North West of the island."
"It is hoped the new service will be operational by the first of June and hopefully in the time for the summer holidays."
He added "The new operator, Rooskey Frazer & Co, have experience in this type of business as they deliver a ferry service across the Shandon and have new terminals installed at Carlingford Lough.”
Cllr Nicholl concluded: “I am hopeful they can make this particular service a success long into the future."
