Changes to parking arrangements at Altnagelvin Hospital

Due to continuing major development work taking place at Altnagelvin Hospital, the Western Health and Social Care Trust (Western Trust) is introducing new parking arrangements at the Derry hospital

From 9.00pm on Sunday next, 15 May, the paid car park located adjacent to the Tower Block of the hospital, locally referred to as the ‘Horseshoe’ car park, will close permanently to facilitate the completion of construction works for the new Radiotherapy Centre and allow for works to commence on the new North Wing building.

Replacement parking spaces for those lost due to the construction of the new buildings have already been provided at the new multi storey car park, which opened in October last year.

The multi storey car park is also a paid car park and the rate of 70p per hour will remain unchanged.

Any current exemptions or concessionary rates for patients parking at the hospital will still apply as per regional guidelines.

Further details on concessionary rates can be found on the Trust’s website www.westerntrust.hscni.net or by contacting reception.

Additional signage will be displayed throughout appropriate areas of the hospital site to ensure patients and visitors can locate parking areas easily.

The entrance to the new Multi Storey car park is located opposite the Nurses Home area. Electronic signs indicating space availability are positioned at both Glenshane Road and Crescent Link access routes.

A Trust spokesperson said the closure of the ‘Horseshoe car park’ will enable the Trust to continue with the strategic redevelopment of Altnagelvin Hospital site.

The spokesperson added: “All necessary steps will be taken to minimise disruption and patient services and clinics will remain fully operational at all times.

“Patients and visitors to the Hospital are advised to allow sufficient time before scheduled appointments.

“The Western Trust would like to thank its patients and the public for their understanding and support as it undertakes this essential work.”
