Sinn Féin MEP Martina Anderson today met with the Brexit spokesperson of the British Labour Party, Kier Starmer.
Martina Anderson said she made it clear to him that Brexit would be a disaster for Ireland, north and south and that its impact would be particularly felt in border areas like Derry.
“I also reminded him of the fact that the majority of people in the north voted to remain but that vote has been ignored by the Tory government," she said.
“We also discussed the need for the north to secure special designated status within the EU and I pointed him to the independent legal advice which shows that it is legally possible.
“I urged him to look at our case for special status and to work with us and others to secure it in the best interests of all citizens here.”
