Final preparations for Derry's 1916 Easter Rising street pageant

Final preparations are being made for a major outdoor drama to be staged in Derry tomorrow night as part of the city’s celebrations marking the 100th anniversary of the 1916 Easter Rising.

“The Dawning of the Day,” a re-enactment of the events 100 years ago, will take place from 7.30pm in the Guildhall Square, with a cast of over 100 taking part.

The special performance promises to be the biggest 1916 event in the North West this year.

The cast have been in rehearsals for the last two months.

With free admission, the production is expected to draw a large audience.

The live action in the Guildhall Square will also be broadcast on the large screen in the adjacent Waterloo Place.

It will also be streamed online live around the world.
