A Derry councillor has accused car criminals giving “two fingers” to the people of Derry, after a second car was stolen, dumped and destroyed in Creggan in the matter of days.
The Derry News print edition revealed today that the self-styled 'hoods' are now filming themselves rallying and then torching stolen cars.
Colly Kelly has now condemned a further overnight incident in which a stolen car was torched.
And he says Sinn Féin councillors and community activists from the Moor ward are to meet the PSNI on this issue.
Councillor Kelly said: “I received an early morning call on Thursday from a constituent to say that a car had been dumped and set on fire at the back of Creggan.
"When I went to the scene I shocked to find that they had dumped and burned another car directly behind a car which had been burned two nights previously.
"I have been inundated with complaints from people right across the city angry with the consensus that these criminals are taking a hand and giving two fingers to the people of this city as they go about their actions.
"There is a hard core of car criminals out there who have no regard for people or property. They are that brazen that they are now posting videos on social media mimicking the actions of a gang of hoods from the Lower Falls area of Belfast."
Sinn Féin Councillors for the Moor ward along with community activists will be holding a meeting with the PSNI calling for an immediate response.
Cllr Kelly said: "It’s only a matter of time before someone is killed as these car gangs think they can act with impunity. They need to be put behind bars plain and simple. "
