A car (pictured) was destroyed in an arson attack in the driveway of a home in the Drumard Park area of Hazelbank late last night.

One eye witness said the attack had been carried out by five to six "fellas with black hoods" who jumped out of a van at the entrance to the park shortly after 11pm.

She said: "Then a few minutes later my neighbour's car goes up in flames - shocking to think people laying in their beds and things like this going on."

Police have issued an appeal for information about the incident.

PSNI Inspector Tony Moore said: "At approximately 11.10pm last night, Sunday, 25 February police received a report that a car which was parked in the driveway of a house in the Drumard Park area of Ballymagrorty was on fire. NIFRS attended and extinguished the fire.

"Police are working to establish the cause of this fire.  If anyone has any information about this incident they are asked to contact Police at Strand Road on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference 1397 25/02/18.  Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime."
