There is no money available to cut back trees at Westend Park in the Bogside area of Derry, a local councillor has said.
Sinn Fein Cllr Colly Kellys said while Transport NI own the land with “major trees” on it overlooking homes in Westend Park facing onto Elmwood Terrace, they would will not be cutting the trees back due to budgets and bird nesting.
Cllr Kelly was speaking after being contacted contacted by residents who asked for the large trees to be cut back .
He added: “The trees have grown to a considerable height and in some cases dwarfing the homes in Westend Park causing light and views issues.”
Cllr Kelly concluded: “I would ask Transport NI to look at this decision again particularly before the onset off the winter months.”
