The Derry prisoner Tony Taylor has paid tribute to the ‘strength’ of his family at a protest rally held in the city centre at the weekend marking the two-year anniversary of his incarceration.

The 48-year-old was returned to prison after his licence was revoked by the then Secretary of State Theresa Villiers.

A protest was held in the city on Staurday calling for Mr Taylor's immediate release, which began at the Bishop Street Courthouse before proceeding to the Guildhall Square.

A recording was then played to those in attendance, in which Mr Taylor thanked those who had helped organise the rally.

“Let me begin by firstly stating my appreciation to you in Derry and elsewhere, you are taking time out of your own busy schedules to both arrange and join this protest,” he said.

He also spoke of his ‘pride and love’ for Lorraine and his family and their ‘strength in the face of continued injustice’.
