A Derry councillor said there are fears that bus services to the Galliagh area could be withdrawn after a number of recent attacks on buses in the area.
Derry Sinn Féin Councillor Sandra Duffy has condemned a number of stoning incidents on buses in the Galliagh area and fears if it continues the service could be withdrawn.
She was speaking after a window was broken in a bus in Galliagh on Tuesday night.
She said: "There have been a number of stone attacks on buses servicing Galliagh in the past week. On Tuesday night a window was broken in bus at a turning point between Elaghmore Park and Ederowen Park.
"It’s fortunate there has not been serious injury to either the driver or the passengers. Those people involved in these actions need not only to consider the consequences of the physical damage they could cause and their repercussions but also the disruption to their own community that attacking a bus causes.
"Galliagh has many residents that depend on affordable public transport to get to and from the city centre and the removal of this service would cause untold hardship. There is now the fear that this service could be withdrawn and I fully understand the responsibilities Translink have to protect both their employees and passengers.
"I have spoken to both Community Restorative Justice (CRJ)and Off the Streets to see if we could can come up an initiative to try dissuade people from getting involved in these attacks.
"I would also call on the local community to support Translink in helping to deliver a safe affordable service to the area by using any influence with the young people involved to desist immediately."
