An 18-year-old Derry man who was granted bail to go on a month’s holiday to America has failed to show up in court.
Shane Doherty, from Cashelmore Park, pleaded guilty to assaulting two people and stealing a bluetooth speaker from Tesco.
He also pleaded guilty to cycling without due care and attention, attempted criminal damage of a child’s static ride-on machine belonging to Quayside Shopping Centre and possessing a weapon, namely a brick.
The offences took place on March 22 this year.
At a previous hearing, police allowed Doherty to go to America from April 24 until May 16 if there were additional ‘bolstering’ conditions attached to his bail.
District Judge Barney McElholm granted Doherty his own bail of £50 bail to reside at his home address.
An additional surety of £1,000 was put in place by Doherty’s father to assuage any fears that he might not return and proof of a returning flight was given to police.
He was also to sign at Strand Road Police Station on his return from holiday.
Doherty was also ordered to observe a curfew from 9.00pm to 8.00am curfew and not consume alcohol and adhere to a preliminary breath test if required.
He was also not enter Quayside Shopping Centre, including Tesco and have no contact with the injured parties.
Doherty was due to return home yesterday and did not appear in court this morning.
Paddy McDaid, defence solicitor, said he had attempted to contact Doherty and his brother but had been unsuccessful.
Judge McElholm said: 'I made it clear to him if he didn't turn up.'
He added if the flight had been delayed they should have gotten in contact.
An arrest warrant was issued for Doherty.
