Sinn Féin education spokesperson in Derry, Councillor Patricia Logue, has encouraged young people to take part in Walk to School Week which began today..
She said: "This is Walk to School Week across the North and thousands of school pupils are expected to take part.
"Initiatives like this not only promote fitness and health among young people but also their parents and guardians.
"I would like to wish all those taking part well and encourage more people to get involved.
"I would also appeal to motorists and road users to show additional care and attention over the course of this week as there will be increased numbers of young people walking to and from school."
