There have been calls for more investment at a retail park in Derry afte the announcement that another store is close at the site.
Carpetright, the leading floor covering business in the UK, confirmed on Thursday morning that it is to shut its store at the Crescent Link Retail Park (above) in the Waterside area.
The Waterside outlet is one of 92 stores which are to close, with the firm also cutting 300 jobs as part of a restructuring plan.
It also marks the latest blow for Crescent Link Retail Park, which has previously saw the closure of an First Trust branch and a Frankie and Benny's restaurant.
Toys R Us also shut its Crescent Link store earlier this year.
Speaking to the Derry News, the Waterside DUP councillor said there was ‘concern’ among the local community at the number of stores which had recently closed down at the site, and called for new investment to be ‘urgently looked at’.
“It is very worrying given the number of recent closures and how quickly this has happened,” he said.
“Crescent Link Retail Park is an integral part of ensuring the economic future of the Waterside, we have a lot of new homes being constructed nearby and I would hope to see some new investment in the site and these units filled with new tenants.”
