An organisation whose members are drawn mainly from the Protestant/unionist tradition are teaming up with republicans to host a public meeting in Derry's City Hotel tomorrow night, where they will spell out their joint opposition to abortion law reform.

The Belfast-based Both Lives Matter group will be sharing a platform with Cherish All the Children Equally, whose members include Dr Anne McCloskey [pictured], and Anne and Francis Brolly who resigned from Sinn Fein recently because of the party's stance on abortion.

Dr McCloskey explained: "Obviously the upcoming referendum is of major concern to those of us in the North who respect the constitutional protection which the 8th offers to preborn children.

"Despite our significant political differences, both groups have been cooperating closely over the past years, knowing that if the eighth falls, we will find it very difficult to protect our pro-life laws in this state.

"Both organisations have websites which explain our ethos and background, which cross the political spectrum."

The platform at tomorrow's meeting, which gets underway at 7.30pm, will include the Derry-based GP Anne McCloskey, former Sinn Fein councillor Anne Brolly, as well as Dawn McEvoy from BLM and Mark Baillie from CARE.
