Mayor thanks groups for refugee charity support

The Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District, Councillor Elisha McCallion last night held a special reception in the Guildhall in recognition of the many local schools, agencies and community organisations across the district who contributed so generously to her Refugee Charity Appeal.

The appeal, organised through the Civic Action for Refugees Forum, generated an overwhelming response with money and items well in excess of the original target contributed for starter packs for the refugee families who relocated to the city at the start of the month.

The Mayor, who has been in regular contact with the families, extended her personal thanks to all involved and thanked those present on behalf of the 47 refugees who have found a new home here in the city.
