Sinn Féin Foyle MLA Karen Mullan has welcomed the allocation of extra funding by the Housing Executive to local organisation Foyle Haven which provides a day centre service to support local street drinkers.
Karen Mullan said: “The news that extra funding has been allocated to Foyle Haven by the Housing Executive is to be welcomed, particularly for the staff, volunteers and the many service users who enter through the doors of Foyle Haven on a daily basis for help and support.
“Sinn Féin have been lobbying for a number of months to seek a resolution to Foyle Haven's funding issues and working to secure a sustainable package in order to keep the service running at full capacity.
“Foyle Haven provides a much-needed service in terms of helping those struggling with addiction and homelessness.
"It is the only service of its kind in this city and must be protected.
“Moving forward, I am calling upon all of the relevant statutory agencies to work collectively to ensure that the long term sustainability of this project is safeguarded in order to maintain the vital support they provide to some of the most vulnerable people in our communities.”
