A DERRY group which encourages and supports the over 50s has received a funding windfall of almost £10,000.
The Northside 50+ group helps women living within the Greater Shantallow Area to engage in social, recreational, cultural and educational activities.
This helps build social inclusion and encourages positive mental health and well-being.
Earlier this week the group was told it had been awarded £9,850 to deliver its project ‘Age is But a Number’, helping to host a programme of events and activities.
The money was awarded by the Big Lottery Fund NI through its Awards for All programme.
“We are looking forward to continuing to provide activities and events for women each Monday Morning at the Shantallow Community Centre,” said Kay Fleming, Chairperson at the Northside 50+ Club.
“We are delighted to have received Big Lottery Funding.
“The project will enable us to provide various activities such as Tia Chi, Chair Aerobics, Arts & Crafts, Health & Wellbeing and Community Relations events for members.
“Big Lottery has been very supportive to the group over the last 14 years”.
The Awards for All Northern Ireland offers funding of between £300 and £10,000 for a project that can be completed within 12 months.
Awards for All is an open programme, which means there are no closing dates for applications.
The Northside 50+ Club was established in 2005 and encourages and supports senior citizens living within the Greater Shantallow Area to engage in social, recreational, cultural and educational activities thus building social inclusion and encouraging positive mental health and well-being.
Northside 50+ Club meet every Monday morning at Shantallow Community Centre from 10.30-12.30.
