The home-grown hit comedy, Derry Girls, has been nominated for a number of awards at this year’s Irish Film and Television Academy Awards.
The hit comedy penned by the city’s own Derry girl, Lisa McGee, has been earmarked by the Irish Film and Television Academy Awards(IFTA) as a nominee for Best Comedy Award and Lisa herself, who brought the show to life through the witty strokes of her pen, has also been nominated as Best Comedy Writer.
Derry Girls, produced by Hat Trick, is also up for further IFTA accolades with Derry-born star, Saoirse-Monica Jackson, being nominated for Best Female Actress and Irish comedy legend, Tommy Tiernan, being nominated for Best Male Performance.
Derry Girls was the biggest TV series to air in Northern Ireland since modern records began in 2002.
The first series of Derry Girls being watched by an average of 2.5 million viewers, it was Channel 4’s biggest comedy launch since 2004.
The show is up against other Irish comedies, The Young Offenders, Mrs Brown’s Boys, Catastrophe and Bridget & Eamon, however, we are sure the whole of Derry will be rooting for the Derry Girls!
