Two Latvian men charged with committing offences of fraud in Derry have been released on bail with an order not to leave the jurisdiction.
Deniss Jassans, 39 and Ilia Racickis, 29, c/o Maghaberry prison, have each been charged with possessing articles in connection with fraud on December 12, 2017.
They both faces five further charges of fraud by false representation for offences alleged to have been committed on December 1-3 of last year. They relate to Supervalue stores in Richhill, Northside Shopping Centre, Limavady, Tandregee and a Vivo shop in Comber.
It is understood the defendants are from Latvia and when arrested in Derry had in their possession numerous bank/credit cards which police said belonged to ‘migrant or temporary workers’.
The investigating officer previously stated that he believes the case may have been linked to ‘modern slavery and human trafficking’.
Both men were granted High Court bail on May 11 for the charges from December 12 and District Judge Barney McElholm agreed to grant bail on the same terms for the false representation charges.
They were released to an address to be approved by the PSNI. Other conditions state they have a curfew of 10pm-7am, will be electronically tagged, must not obtain or apply for ID cards or passports, have no credit/bank cards which do not bear their names, shall not leave Northern Ireland and must report to a PSNI station twice per week.
Their cases were adjourned to a Magistrates Court sitting on June 7.
