Tributes to Derry murder victim

Tributes have been paid to the 24-year-old Derry man who was stabbed to death in the city last night.

Gerard Quinn (pictured) died after being fatally injured in what police have described as “altercation” at Milldale Crescent in the Currynierin Estate shortly before 10.30pm.

The father-of-one, who lived locally, was rushed to the nearby Altnagelvin Hospital but died a short time later.

A second man, believed to be the victim’s twin brother, sustained head injuries in the incident which are not life-threatening.

Police have launched a murder inquiry and continue to question a 16-year-old youth arrested around 90 minutes after the incident.

Deputy First Minister, Foyle Sinn Fein MLA Martin McGuinness, is among those who have expressed sympathy to the dead man’s family.

He said: "My thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of the man who was killed at this difficult time."

Meanwhile, friends of Mr Quinn, a former pupil of St Patrick's and St Brigid's College in Claudy, have taken to social media to pay tribute to him.
