A post mortem is due to be carried out today on the body of the Derry man stabbed to death in the city at the weekend.

Gerard Quinn (pictured) was fatally wounded in what police have described as an “altercation” in Milldale Crescent in the Currynierin area of the Waterside shortly before 10.30pm on Saturday.

The 24-year-old father-of-one was rushed to the nearby Altnagelvin Hospital but died a short time later.

The former pupil of St Patrick’s and St Brigid’s College in Clady, who lived locally, had been attending a house party at which a fight broke out.

It is understood he was stabbed in the neck with a bottle.

Another man, believed to be his twin brother, was also treated in hospital for head injuries which were not life-threatening.

A 16-year-old youth, arrested around 90 minutes after the incident, remains in police custody.
