Former Scottish First Minister Alex Salmond to address Derry's business leaders

Former First Minister of Scotland Alex Salmond will be in Derry next month to give a keynote address at an event being hosted by the city’s Chamber of Commerce.

The one-time leader of the Scottish Nationalist Party (SNP) will be the special guest at a Chamber lunch being held in the City Hotel on 10 June.

Mr Salmond (pictured) served two terms as Scotland’s First Minister, from May 2007 to November 2014 when he resigned following the results a referendum in which the majority of Scottish people voted against independence.

Following his election to the Westminster Parliament in May last year, he was appointed the SNP's foreign affairs spokesman in the House of Commons and tweeted the party would advocate a 'pro Europe,' 'pro developing world' and 'against military adventurism' stance.

In January last, he called US Presidential candidate Donald Trump a ‘chicken’ for refusing to appear on his talk show, saying that: ‘The Donald tries to give this impression that he's totally off the cuff, in fact his media operation controls him and protects him from tough interviews, and when he's had tough interviews he hasn't liked it, that's been pretty obvious."
