A team of Derry men are going to attempt to eat a burger the size of their heads in an epic food challenge to raise funds for Cancer Research.

The competitive eating competition will take place at this year’s Legenderry Relay for Life in aid of Cancer Research UK.

Team Million Dollar Fitness have created the ‘Man V Food’ style event to help them reach their fundraising target.

“We’re a competitive bunch and want to raise as much as possible,” explained Dee McCahill, founder of Million Dollar Fitness.

“This is a great way to get the guys involved - let’s be honest, what guy doesn’t want to eat a burger the size of his head?”

The challenge will take place on Saturday June 23 at the Relay for Life event and the goal is to eat a 4lb burger, complete with all the trimmings, which is the he equivalent of 16 quarter-pounders.

“We sourced a local catering company, KD Outside Catering, who created a special recipe for the burgers and the loaf-sized baps,” Dee explained.

“Each burger will take probably an hour to make, yet we’re hoping to demolish these in 30 minutes or less.

“The irony of scoffing a 4lb burger is not lost on us, however we’re always up for a challenge, a bit of craic, and – of course – our core value of contribution and giving back to our community.”

Dee said the Million Dollar Fitness were determined to make as much money as possible for the charity.

“Cancer robs life from so many people each and every year.

“It’s something that touches many families and our Million Dollar community is no exception.

“When we first mentioned taking part, I was overwhelmed by just how many members wanted to give 24 hours of their lives to honour people who have fought cancer and join the challenge to fight back against cancer.”

She said Relay for Life is about raising awareness and raising funds for vital research.

“It’s about educating the community about eating well, exercising more and living the best life you can to prevent cancer.”

“Finding a cure can give families more happy days together. New and better ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer are needed to help people through their cancer journey. That can only happen through research.”

“When Team Million Dollar decide to take action and make a difference we are awesome and a force to be reckoned with.”
