Blood-stained street marks the spot where a man was shot in Derry last night

A blood-stained street marks the spot where a man was shot in Derry last night.

The man shot in a paramilitary-style punishment shooting in Creggan is in a critical condition in hospital.

He was originally treated at Altnagelvin Hospital before being transferred to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast.

The incident occurred at around 9pm at Magowan Park, a new housing development on the site of the former St Peter’s High School in the Creggan area.

The man was shot in both legs.

Those responsible have been condemned.

Sinn Fein MLA Maeve McLaughlin said the perpetrators of the attack had 'nothing to offer but fear and intimidation'.

She added: "These attacks have been rejected by our communities and they have no place in the new Ireland we are trying to build.

"Our thoughts are obviously with the man who has been injured and his family and I would urge anyone with any information to bring it to the PSNI immediately.”
