Last night’s shooting in Derry which has left a man fighting for his life in a Belfast hospital was ‘barbaric,’ the city’s police chief has said.
The man, in his 20s, was shot twice in the right leg as he out of a car at Magowan Park, a new housing development on the site of the former St Peter’s High School in the Creggan area..
The incident occurred at around 9.00pm.
The man was rushed to the city’s Altnagelvin Hospital and later transferred to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast where his condition has been described as “critical.”

The city’s police commander, Superintendent Mark McEwan, said the “main focus” of the investigation was violent dissident paramilitary groupings.
Appealing for witnesses to come forward with information, he described the shooting as “barbaric” and “reprehensible.”
