Two Derry brothers are awaiting sentencing for their part in a violent crime spree the city almost 19 months ago.

Michael Carlin, 25, and Andrew Carlin, 19 (both pictured) have pleaded guilty to a number of offences relating to incidents in the Galliagh and Shantallow areas in November 2014.

They had previously denied the offences.

Michael Carlin had denied a total of 24 offences but at Derry Crown Court yesterday admitted three counts of possession of a firearm with the intention to cause fear of violence, possessing an offensive weapon in a public place, threats to kill, three counts of criminal damage and three assaults.

He also admitted attempted robbery, aggravated taking and causing damage to a vehicle, two counts of attempted hijacking and aggravated burglary and theft.

He pleaded guilty to further offences of dangerous driving, having no insurance and failing to stop, remain and report an accident where damage had occurred.

Offences of blackmail, robbery and possession of a firearm with intent to casue fear of violence were "left on the books" against Michael Carlin.

Andrew Carlin, of Knockdara Park, had also denied all the charges against him but pleaded guilty to all but one of 22 offences at the same court.

He admitted five counts of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, four counts of attempted hijacking, three counts of criminal damage and possession of an offensive weapon. He also pleaded guilty to threats to kill, an indictable assault, two counts of attempted robbery, two common assaults and the aggravated taking and causing damage of a car. A common assault was left ‘on the books’.

Both were remanded in custody to await sentencing.

A third accused, Christopher O’Reilly, 24, of Glenabbey Drive, who denies offences of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, possession of an offensive weapon in a public place, threats to kill, two counts of criminal damage and indictable common assault, was released on continuing bail.

He is due to face trial on June 15.
