Eric Koech set a blistering pace to win today’s Walled City Marathon run in Derry.

The Kenyan broke the tape (pictured) in 2.23.48, just three seconds ahead of his fellow countryman Dan Tanui.

Chris McGonigle from the Rosses in Donegal was third in 2.41.28.

Chris McGuinness, of Foyle Valley Athletic Club, was the first Derry finisher in seventh place with a time of 2.48.31.

The winner of the women’s race, 2008 Olympian Pauline Curley, from Tullamore, set a new course record of 2.47.23, six seconds faster than the record she set when winning last year’s event.
