Derry City and Strabane District Council has just launched this year’s Everybody Active Summer Sports Camps programme with a fun-filled line-up of activities to keep children aged from 8-12 active and entertained over those long summer months.

The Everybody Active Summer Sports Camps are open to children aged between 8 and 12 years of age, and are fully supervised and led by qualified instructors who will teach the children new skills and encourage participation in sports, physical activity and arts based activities.

The camps will take place at Templemore Sports Complex, Foyle Arena, Melvin Sports Complex and Derg Valley Leisure Centre, running from 9am to 3pm each day, and costing £30 for the five day schemes and £18 for the three day schemes running in Strabane.

Council Leisure and Sports Services Manager, Paul Tamati, said they were expecting huge demand for the sports camps. “The sports camps feature a wide range of indoor and outdoor activities designed to teach new skills, offer new experiences and promote health and well-being over the summer months.

“The five day camps will feature a wide variety of activities including Soccer, Athletics, Gaelic, Tag Rugby, Swimming, Football and Arts & Crafts amongst other. The Foyle Arena Camp will also include use of the state of the art Climbing Wall. There is always great demand for the Council’s summer activities so I would definitely advise parents to check out the information online now and see what’s on in their area.”

Registration is now open and places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.

To ensure successful registration parents must bring full payment, and proof of age - eg passport or birth certificate.
