Road users are being urged to show “extreme caution after a 14 year-old girl was knocked down by van while walking to school in Magherafelt town centre.
The accident occurred on Tuesday morning shortly after 9.20am at Church Street.
The teen was taken to hospital and treated for injuries which are not believed to be life threatening.
DUP Cllr has called on all road users to take extra care.
She said: “As we approach the summer months and school holidays, young children will be out and about more. I would ask all road users to be mindful of this and drive with extreme caution especially.
“The speed of some of the traffic through villages and towns across the district would frighten you. The last thing we need is the local community being plunged into grief as a result of a road traffic accident. In this case, the young girl is very fortunate she wasn’t seriously injured.
“I would also appeal for young people to be extra careful when stepping out to cross roads especially as there is so much upgrading work ongoing in Magherafelt.”
