Friends of a young Derry man whose body was recovered from the River Foyle last year are to climb into the ring at a charity boxing event being held next month in aid of Foyle Search and Rescue.

Twenty-four friends, both male and female, of Paddy Kelly will “square up” to each other at the event being staged at Strathfoyle Youth Club on 22 Julyt.

The event is being held in honour of Paddy (pictured) whose body was recovered by Foyle Search and Rescue in February last year. He was aged just 18.

Some of the participants fought last year when the memorial event was first held, but many have never stepped into a ring before.

They are currently learning their craft with Strathfoyle Boxing Club under the watchful eye of coaches Jamie Duffy, Damien McKinney and Martin Mongomery.
