4eInstitute will remain in the IFA Championship One for another season at least after being held to heartbreaking draw by Ballinamallard United in their relegation/promotion play-off at Ferney Park tonight.
Going into the game 2-1 down, Kevin Deery’s side led tonight’s clash on three occasions but were pegged by each time by the home side who retained their place in the Premiership with a goal two minutes into injury time.
Jamie Dunne put the Derry side in front when his shot was deflected past United keeper Alvin Rouse in the 17th minute.
But the lead only last five minutes as Derry man Emmet Friars levelled the game with a header,
Gareth Browne (pictured) put Stute back in front from close range in the 28th minute.
Cathal Beacom brought the home side back on level terms from the penalty spot following a foul on Lafferty 13 minutes into the second half.
Almost immediately, Shane McGinty (pictured) fired the visitors back in front with a long range effort to level the tie 4-4 on aggregate.
United were reduced to 10 men when Liam McMenamin was sent off by referee Raymond Hetherington.
Institute hearts were broken the Mallards levelled again two minutes into injury time to win the tie 5-4 on aggregate.
