One year on from his death we, his former colleagues George, Terence, Gregory and Maurice would like to pay this tribute to our good friend Martin.
On June 14, 2015, we learned of the death of our very good friend and dedicated former work colleague Martin McGeady.
The passing of Martin caused great dismay and sorrow in the local community, especially to his many friends in the spheres of education and sport.
This was greatly evidenced by the many friends and ‘Tech’ staff who called at his sister’s house and attended his funeral.
Martin’s educational qualifications and his experience in participating in sporting activities at the very highest level, stood him in very good stead when he entered the area of Further and Higher Education.
He had many successes in the field of athletics and indeed he was highly praised as an exemplary ambassador for the sport of athletics and of course for his home town of Derry.
Due to his sporting interests and background he was able to relate to the young people for whom he had the responsibility of enhancing their educational experience.
Over the years many ‘Tech’ students (now the North West Regional College) benefited greatly from Martin’s informal caring approach to teaching and learning.
His keenness for his job was evidenced by the fact that after collecting his fresh baps from the local bakery, he was first to report in every morning.
Martin was very much involved in a lot of the outreach learning programmes and projects which were delivered to many of the local schools and in this area of work was greatly respected by everyone with whom he came in contact.
In this role he was actually regarded as a great ambassador for the work of the Derry ‘Tech’.
We are sure that many people, particularly those who benefited from Martin’s teaching and educational expertise, will join with us in thanking God for the life of Martin.
May he rest in Peace, G, T,G and M.
