Over 50 people have taken part in a walk through one of Derry’s largest housing estates tonight in protest at anti-social behaviour in the area..

Organised by the newly-formed Galliagh Community Empowerment, the walk left St Joseph’s Church (White Chapel) and went through many of the parks in the area.

It was the second such protest in the area.

Before setting off , Independent Councillor for the area, Warren Robinson, told those present the initiative had “never been tried before.”

He added: “Hopefully, we can keep the momentum up and, hopefully, we can keep the streets of Galliagh safe.”
Several victims of crime also attended.

A 64-year-old man told how he was assaulted and had a pellet gun pointed at him after challenging a youth who had been riding a scrambler recklessly on the footpath outside his home.

He added: “I applaud you from the bottom of my heart what you are doing.”

A couple told how they have had two cars stolen from outside their Galliagh Park home where were later burned.
