A delegation of Sinn Féin elected representatives has visited the Derry offices of Bryson Energy to meet staff and to discuss the ongoing work and plans of the Energy Agency in the Derry City & Strabane District Council area.

The delegation included Raymond McCartney (MLA) and Councillors Sandra Duffy, Eric McGinley & Paul Fleming.

Speaking after the meeting, Laurence Arbuckle, senior manager, Bryson Energy, said among the issues discussed were costs of fuel, local fuel poverty levels and renewable energy.

He added: “The elected reps were keen to promote the Bryson Energy Freephone number 0800 1422 865 to help local people.

“The Freephone, funded by the Northern Ireland Housing Executive, gives free and independent advice to all householders on domestic energy matters.

Mr Arbuckle concluded: “We are grateful to Derry City & Strabane District Council for their support over the years and look forward to working with them in the future to improve the lives of local people and enhance the local environment.”

Councillor Sandra Duffy said: “We were very impressed today during our visit to Bryson Energy, to hear the positive work that is carried out across our city and district, with the assistance given to vulnerable tenants in ensuring that they are not paying more for energy than need be.

“I would encourage all domestic energy users to take advantage of the Free-phone number - 0800 14 22 865 to check out if there are any grants, cash backs and renewable energy subsidies available, that could be of benefit.

“We were also particularly impressed to hear about the various projects which are being run, including community oil clubs, and the Rethink Waste project run in conjunction with Derry City and Strabane District Council. We are pleased to offer this service our continued support and look forward to seeing the positive impact such projects will have on our local environment. “
